Covid-19 has reached the state of Amazonas and Indigenous People are amongst the most vulnerable in the face of this pandemic. Self-isolation measures were quickly & voluntarily put into place by the communities in the Vale do Javari where we work and so far there have thankfully been no confirmed cases. But illegal invaders are using this as an opportunity to increase their activities.
As you can read in Sebastian Salgado’s OpEd: “there is nothing to protect indigenous peoples from the risk of genocide caused by an infection introduced by outsiders who enter their land illegally.”
Please consider donating to Tribes on the Edge to support the indigenous communities in the Javari. Your donation will help us create a livelihood program with our partners at Cultural Sanctuaries to support the work of the indigenous communities of the Javari protecting their culture and their land.
